Ping Chong is an internationally acclaimed director, playwright, and pioneer in the use of media in the theater. A recipient of a USA Artist Fellowship, two BESSIE awards, and two OBIE awards, his work has been presented at major festivals and theatres around the world. Recent productions include Throne of Blood (Oregon Shakespeare Festival, BAM), and Cathay: Three Tales of China (Seattle Repertory Theatre, the Kennedy Center). Since 1992, he has created over 40 works in the Undesirable Elements series of interview-based projects examining the lives of individuals living as “outsiders” in their communities, performed by the individuals themselves. Ping Chong is a 2013 Doris Duke Performing Artist Award recipient.
