Check out this New York Times article about the new Google Arts and Culture web platform Mali Magic. This interactive project, seven years in the making was produced in conjunction with the Timbuktu Renaissance Initiative and released by  Co-Director  Cynthia Schneider this past spring. The article also describes how the  texts of the five-hundred-year-old manuscripts are being used to inspire peace-building in current, conflict-ridden Mali,  something the Timbuktu Renaissance does through music.
