Amelia Shotwell

Amelia Shotwell is an actor, writer, playwright, dramaturg, director, and singer from Northern Michigan. She is currently pursuing both a BA and MA in English Literature at Georgetown University. Her academic interests in Feminist theory, Adaptation theory, Shakespeare, The Great Depression, Motherhood, and Film theory influence much of her artistic work. Classically trained in vocal performance for eight years, Amelia is a soprano who specializes in Golden Aged Musical Theater. Most recently, Amelia played Catherine in Mask & Bauble Dramatic Society’s 2024 production of Stephen Shwartz’s Pippin! and Florinda in their 2023 production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods. She was in the original company of Camilla Madero’s new play Our Dirty War in October of 2023. Amelia was a finalist in the 2019 Traverse City Opera House’s Young Playwrights Festival for her original historical fiction play Love, Lisette. Amelia writes creative fiction short stories and was a 2023-2024 Student Fellow for the Lannan Center for Poetics and Social Practice. Her art explores the essence of the human experience, centering on themes of loss, grief, love, feminity, internal conflict, generational trauma, and mother-daughter relationships. She is particularly interested in the ways in which history shapes our present moment.
