Laila Jadallah is an M.A. candidate in the Arab studies program. She is a freelance curator, art producer, and researcher who is interested in cultural production, identity politics, displacement, diasporic studies, and cultural diplomacy and is currently the Managing Director of Washington Studio School. Laila received her B.A. in Integrative Studies with a focus on Art as Social Action from George Mason University and has certificates from SPEOS Photographic Institute Paris and Harvard Business School Online. She was a D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities Fellow in 2017 and 2019 and her work has been featured in The Washington Post, AlHurra TV, The New York Times, and D.C. Modern Luxury Magazine among many others. She is a member of ArtTable, Inc., Museum HUE, and the Brokering Intercultural Exchange Group. Recent projects include curating the exhibition, “Art in Isolation: Creativity in the Time of COVID-19” on view through January 29, 2021, at the Middle East Institute and CoChairing “State of Art 5/DC: A Conversation” at The Smithsonian American Art Museum in October 2019.
At a time characterized by polarization and distrust, the need for approaches that humanize others through narrative and empathy has never been greater. The Lab is dependent on outside funding in order to make our work possible.
